Dan O’Shea will share his experience in learning and living the “Message to Garcia,” which is based upon the principles of self-initiative and a mission-accomplishment mindset, principles that can be instilled and implemented in one's personal and professional lives. Message to Garcia is the first leadership lesson every incoming plebe (freshman) at the US Naval Academy (Annapolis) and US Military Academy (West Point) reads and is taught to embrace. Dan will share stories from his time as a SEAL Team platoon commander and working in high-pressure hostage negotiation situations.
About Dan
Dan O’Shea is a retired Navy SEAL commander and combat veteran with more than 25 years of special operations and leadership experience, built upon multiple deployments to combat/conflict zones from the Middle East to Africa spanning three decades. An asymmetric warfare specialist with extensive overseas and combat experience, O’Shea is a recognized subject matter expert in counter-insurgency (COIN), counter-terrorism, kidnapping and hostage rescue (HR). He is an Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Desert Storm veteran.
