In the last decade, a lot of new programming languages have gained popularity. It is not just COBOL, C, and Java anymore. Python, JavaScript, Go, Rust, TypeScript, Scala, Haskell, Erlang, and Swift are becoming more and more popular.
It's not just about popularity but economics too. These programming languages are used to make their users more productive and efficient. For example, WhatsApp, which was bought by Facebook for $16B, had only 35 engineers developing and operating its platform supporting half a billion users. They developed their platform in one of the languages above.
In this session, we will review the most important modern languages, learn about best use cases for them, discuss how they can be used on z/OS or Linux on System z.-Petr Plavjanik-Broadcom
