In this presentation, I will share insights into DB2 performance measurements
using data from SMF 72, 30, 100, and 101 records. DB2 is one of the key areas to
monitor in mainframe environments, especially when focusing on CPU usage and the
performance of each DB2 subsystem. We will explore how DB2 plans and packages
help provide visibility into the interactions between DB2 and various types of
workloads, such as BATCH jobs, CICS transactions, and IMS transactions.
Understanding these interactions is critical for identifying performance
bottlenecks and optimizing resource usage. Particularly the DB2 Distributed
workloads, which are often among the highest consumers of CPU resources across
many customer environments—a trend I’ve observed repeatedly. This session will
outline practical performance metrics and guide how to analyze and act on them.
