Developer Day

Are you ready to hear from IBM Silicon Valley Lab Developers? Join us Tuesday in the SHARE Booth (#121) at the SHARE Technology Exchange Expo in Exhibit Hall 1 (click here for hoursfor Tech Talk Corner presentations from the developers on their product/area of focus! Complete schedule below.

Note: Agenda is listed in Pacific Standard Time.  There may be multiple sessions occurring at the same time.

Time Speaker(s) About the Session
5:15 p.m. – 5:25 p.m. John Paveza John Paveza, IBM STSM and DFSMS Architect, will discuss a new enhancement for Read Only Volumes.  Learn more about how you can leverage this new capability to reduce recovery time at a remote site, to avoid long distance reads, to avoid contention with OLTP work, and to better utilize cache in the local secondary control unit.
5:30 p.m. – 5:40 p.m.

Todd Wilkinson

Todd Wilkinson, IBM IMS Database Software Engineer, will share how DDL code flow traces in IMS V14 will reduce the time to find root cause of DDL customer issues. Members of the IMS Database development team who helped to implement DDL serviceability enhancement will also be available. For the full version, don't miss Todd's session on Tuesday, DDL 24X7 serviceability.
5:45 p.m. – 5:55 p.m. John Eells

John Eells, IBM z/OS Development, and other DFSMS Catalog developers will share their thoughts on the care and feeding of Catalogs. Intended for those wondering just what are those "catalog" things anyway, but even experienced Catalog users may learn something new. For the full version, don't miss John's session on Wednesday, The Care and Feeding of Catalogs.

6:00 p.m. – 6:10 p.m. Cecilia Carranza Lewis Cecilia Carranza Lewis, IBM STSM and DFSMS Architect, will share how you can enable extensive encryption of data at rest on disk through DFSMS access methods without application changes.  Members of the DFSMS development team who helped to implement encryption will also be available.  For the full version, don't miss Ceci's session on Wednesday, Protect Your Data at Rest with z/OS Data Set Encryption.
6:00 p.m. – 6:10 p.m. Khiet Nguyen Khiet Nguyen: IBM TM Senior software engineer, will discuss new Dynamic MSC
and MSC Repository enhancements. For the full version, don't miss the session
on Thursday, IMS Connect and IMS Transaction Manager: What's New, What's
Changed, what You Need to Know.
6:15 p.m. – 6:25 p.m. Neal Bohling Neal Bohling, IBM VSAM RLS Development, will share a few of the top VSAM Record Level Sharing (RLS) Best Practices.  If you’ve ever wondered about tuning your RLS configuration or what common problems can result from a poor configuration, then drop by the SHARE Booth.  Other VSAM RLS developers will be available to answer questions as well.  For the latest on recent enhancements in VSAM and RLS, don't miss Neal's session on Wednesday, VSAM and RLS New Functions.
6:15 p.m. – 6:25 p.m. Peter Haumer, Jesse Jackson, Seana Hogan

Peter Haumer, DevOps Intelligence Architect, along with Jesse Jackson and Seana Hogan from the development team, will discuss IBM Application Delivery Intelligence (ADI). ADI helps you remove the guesswork from your code testing and development environment. It is the first to use analytics to provide actionable insights and cognitively improve your DevOps activities. Come hear how to optimize time and resources, understand and measure code regressions, and determine if you are improving, based on historical code performance and code change data.

6:30 p.m. – 6:40 p.m. John Butterweck John Butterweck,  IBM Senior Software Engineer,  will discuss IMS SYSGEN and the impact it has on the processing of IMS maintenance.
6:30 p.m. – 6:40 p.m. John Campbell John Campbell, IBM Distinguished Engineer and esteemed DB2 expert, is unable to be at SHARE on Tuesday, and won't be able to share a few of his DB2 best practices and experiences with DB2 customer installations.  However, if you are interested in this topic, he will still be presenting the full version on Wednesday, DB2 for z/OS: JC Greatest Hits, War Stories, Best Practices 2016.
6:45 p.m. - 6:55 p.m. William W. Li, Shawn Benham, Anthony Randolph Join William Li, Anthony Randolph, and Shawn Benham from the z/OS Connect EE team to learn how IMS can take a pivotal role in the API economy.
6:45 p.m. - 6:55 p.m. John Harper John Harper, IBM IMS Development, will share an overview of IMS adopting modern methods of development, such as Design Thinking and Agile practices, as well as moving from legacy systems to an Eclipse based platform in order to plan and build new features of IMS.
7:00 p.m. - 7:10 p.m. Anu Vakkalagadda Anu Vakkalagadda, IBM Senior Software Engineer, IMS Development, will discuss usage of IMSRSC Repository, DRD, IMS commands and IMS automation.
7:00 p.m. - 7:10 p.m. Ruiping Li

IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator: A revolution in database

Ruiping Li, IBM STSM and analytics architect, will give a brief overview of IBM DB2 Analytics Accelerator (IDAA) technology and use cases. IDAA brings analytics closer to the transactional source data by combining DB2's superb transactional capabilities and the IBM PureData for Analytics appliance's industry-leading performance of complex queries. It minimizes the need to move data across platforms; reducing data latency, cost, and complexity; and improves data governance and reduces risk. IDAA is one of the most exciting technologies implemented for DB2 for z/OS.

7:15 p.m. - 7:25 p.m. Jeff Fontaine Jeff Fontaine, senior IBM IMS Database developer, will share how the IMS catalog can be exploited with IMS Explorer for Development 3.2 to generate Data Definition Language (DDL). Come see how DDL allows you to make changes to IMS database metadata and implement it without a “GEN”.
