Developing talent is one area of my job that I enjoy immensely. At the same time, I have budget targets to meet, so I must choose wisely from the many training classes and conferences that are available. It is important to meet the needs of each individual while focusing on increasing skills.
In the 1990s, it was deemed that the mainframe was going away; as a result, focus on the platform and its security suffered. Back then, if you put mainframe security implementations on a quality bell curve, you would have the good, the bad and the ugly. Today, things should be different.
