I'm starting to muse...

I was wandering around Socious trying to find what I needed (the "first time speaker" SHARE video to share with a co-worker), when I remembered Mary Anne mentioning that it would be great if more of us blogged, took a survey, and pretty much just provided social commentary. So, I tried to add to the existing MVS blog.  I kept trying to figure out how to do it, and eventually realized you need access to do that. You know Mary Anne, once I told her, I ended up with my own blog.  Now I really have to walk the talk and actually muse about something. I won't start off by talking about how hard it was for me to find some basic things like the video I was looking for on Socious - maybe another time...

I'll start off here by wondering how many folks are ready for the secure FTP delivery that will be *required* to be used for most electronic deliveries by the 4Q this year?  You can try it out right now (it's been there since October 15, 2012).   Once you've gotten set up for it, that's one less thing to worry about -- especially if you are planning on getting z/OS V2.1 4Q of this year and that will be forefront on your mind then.

If you haven't tried the connectivity test, go to Shopz web page (https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/ShopzSeries/ShopzSeries.jsp).  The connectivity test information was hard for me to find, but once you are on this page scroll to the bottom to find “Connectivity Test for SW download readiness”.  Follow the instructions from there.  Heck, I even managed to get it working, so hopefully it won't be too hard for you.

Here's to your successful test also!

Where the "first time speaker" SHARE video was...

http://www.share.org/p/cm/ld/fid=248 .  It was the "Speaker Training" video I was after and just couldn't easily find.  I made it a Favorite as I think I'll never be able to find it again.  Yes, it may be off the Speaker Resource page, but I certainly didn't find it there.

connectivity test link not visible from outside IBM

Hi Bob:  Hmmm...you mean you can't get the connectivity test to work?  If so, it may be best once you've followed the instructions to open a problem.  I'd start with the ServerPac queue (5751-CS9).

If you mean that you can't see the test itself, I just tried from my smartphone (which has absoluely no special IBM connection!), and I got to the test offering download selection just fine.  I used my "external" IBM userid to logon - so I got there as others should.

Bob,

The link is right off the shopz page, before you even sign on. At the bottom is box called Using ShopZ that has four links. The last one is the connectivity test. It points you to

Trouble with FTPS

February 22, 2013 05:23 PM by J.O. Skip Robinson

For many years we have used a particular appliance to 'punch through' the corporate firewall in order to access IBM sites. This applicance does not recognize/support TLS commands in an FTPS exchange. My network guys are preparing to test a hack (their term) that would allow us to continue business as usual but with TLS. Stay tuned.

so what does it MEAN? sorry if this sounds stupid .... but ...

i downloaded the jcl , ran it, and the stuff that was supposed to be transferred, i.e., the file GIMPAF.XML  was indeed successfully transferred from ibmLand to my mainframe,  BUT

i also got a GIM23413s message to the effect that the gimgtpkg processing had failed .... b/c icsf is not available .

what does a SUCCESSFUL test consist of?
