Many of us have seen Connor Krukosky's talk, detailing his experience in transporting and operating a z890 mainframe, but not only has mainframe hardware advanced and changed significantly since this talk, but many students and mainframers are looking for more information on the steps involved in acquiring a mainframe for personal use. This talk will detail my experiences with acquiring and setting up a mainframe for learning and experimental use, and advice for future students or hobbyists looking to do the same.
