Technical Session – Student Internship Panel

Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Room M301

The Open Mainframe Project was launched in August 2015, as an initiative under the non-profit Linux Foundation. In this session, current interns talk about their recent experiences of open source development on the mainframe. The OMP aims to bring together partners from industry, government and academia, who will support and accelerate the development of an enterprise grade Linux standard. A key part of the Project is to help a new generation of developers to become involved early in this process. In spring 2016, seven students from universities around the world were chosen to spend 12 weeks working on specific projects. Supported by experienced mentors, they have followed a cycle where they identified and developed new features for the platform.

Four 2016 interns will give an account of their experiences:

  • Matthew Bent, studying at East Carolina University
  • Tuan Hoang, studying at Hanoi University of Science and Technology
  • Allen Ng, studying at the University of Buffalo
  • Robert Starr, studying at East Carolina University
