The VM Project of SHARE exists to teach and exchange information about existing and future technologies with the z/VM operating system and the support and services it provides as a virtualization platform (hypervisor) to Linux and other guests.
The VM Project focuses on the services and technologies of the z/VM operating system, with strategic emphasis on system components, use of virtualization technology, support of guest systems, and relevant vendor products. - Installation and maintenance of z/VM, including RSUs, ordering mechanisms and using VMSES/E (installation and service tool)
- Cooperative services and support for Linux, z/OS, z/VSE, z/TPF, and other guests
- Basic z/VM services, including CMS and XEDIT, along with useful tools and techniques
- Internal and external networking and communications using TCP/IP, RSCS, and related hardware
- z/VM performance issues and tuning options, with emphasis on supporting multiple guest systems
- Work with IBM on requirements submitted from the project and influence
