The mission of the Linux & VM Program of SHARE is to:

  • foster a sense of community among the Linux and VM users
  • teach and share information about existing Linux and VM technologies
  • influence the directions of future Linux and VM technologies and assist IBM in validating its proposed directions for Linux and VM
  • help Linux and VM customers exploit Linux and VM technologies
  • promote the use and growth of Linux and VM in user environments to support the business of the users
The Linux & VM Program implements this mission by offering an intensive technical program of sessions that provide practical education and training to users of Linux and VM at all levels of experience. This program includes:
  • focused tracks of sessions leading to specialization certificates
  • tutorials for new users of Linux, Linux/390 and VM
  • tutorials on new technologies
  • intensive hands-on lab sessions
  • impromptu problem solving sessions ("free-for-all" or "user exchange" sessions)
  • sponsoring discussions between VM developers and users in formal and informal settings including one-on-one meeting
  • soliciting requirements from SHARE members and shepherding them through IBM and other vendors

Volunteers

Like many SHARE entities, the VM Program is always looking for volunteers to help out. Whether you chair a session, do some administrative work, or accept a staff position and get involved with managing part of the SHARE organization, your participation is what makes this user group effective. As a way to develop, both personally and professionally, few experiences are more rewarding. The VM Program staff can work with you to match your interests with current needs. If you are curious about how you can help, please discuss it further with any VM Program staff member.
