SHARE Offers Technology User Opinions on Recent IBM Corporation Announcement of the IBM System z10™ Enterprise Class

ORLANDO, FL - SHARE Inc., an independent association of IT professionals who utilize enterprise-class IBM technology, offered user opinions on a recent IBM Corporation announcement. Today, IBM Corporation announced its latest high-end enterprise class server, the IBM System z10 Enterprise Class (System z10 EC), which promises to deliver improved price performance, scalability, and security.

This IBM announcement overlaps with SHARE’s winter conference in Orlando, Florida, February 24-29, 2008. “SHARE is pleased to have this exciting IBM announcement coincide with our conference, as it gives SHARE’s user attendees the first glimpse at the System z10 EC. It is also a further demonstration of the relationship between our two organizations. In particular, SHARE has contributed extensively to the maturation of this product since its inception. And, the platform has evolved and expanded to include the latest technologies. This is a significant advantage for System z customers,” remarked Martin Timmerman, President of SHARE.

Skip Robinson, SHARE Volunteer and user of System z technology, notes, “To provide some perspective on the value of this new system, the high-end model of System z10 EC has more than 100,000 times the CPU processing power and 100 million times the memory of some of the earliest machines, with a fraction of the footprint and power consumption.”

Another long-time SHARE Volunteer and user of System z technology, Brian Peterson, adds, “I think it is critically important that IBM continues to evolve this platform, adopting industry standards, like Fibre Channel as well as recent adoption of InifiBand® technology for the “internal to the machine” data bus and for the “machine to machine” links used by IBM’s Parallel Sysplex®.

SHARE in Orlando is hosting more than 2,000 attendees for five days of continuous education, networking and professional development courses. SHARE’s 2008 conference themes – The SOA Journey and Virtualization are a content focus, along with a General Session Keynote by Jeanette Horan, Vice President of Business Process and Architecture Integration with IBM.
